Some things change. The roads get longer, the trucks get bigger, the schedules get tighter. But at Varley Transport, some things stay exactly the same — like our commitment to doing things properly, showing up with a smile, and treating people like neighbours, not numbers.
This year marks 40 years since our first job rolled out from the small rural town of Varley, Western Australia. What started with Murray and Roxy Lumsden, a single truck, and a strong work ethic has grown into a trusted transport partner for businesses across the state. Today, Varley Transport continues as a proudly family-run business — built on the same values that drove it from day one.
The Early Days: From Varley, WA
Like many good things, Varley Transport started small. When Murray and Roxy Lumsden first set up shop in Varley, they had one truck, a big patch of WA, and a simple goal — to get the job done right. The roads around Varley weren’t always smooth, but that didn’t matter. What mattered was showing up on time, keeping your word, and helping out where you could.
Those early days taught us a lot. How to adapt. How to make things work with what you’ve got. How to treat people — clients, drivers, suppliers — with the kind of respect that turns transactions into long-term relationships. And above all, how to put in a hard day’s work without losing sight of what matters most: family, community, and integrity.

Growth and Change: Building on the Journey
Over the years, the business grew — one route, one client, one truck at a time. There was no secret formula, just a lot of elbow grease, long hours, and a belief that if you looked after people, they’d look after you.
From the dusty backroads to major logistics corridors, our reach expanded. So did our fleet, our services, and our team. But through it all, we stayed grounded in the lessons from our early days: be reliable, be real, and always leave things better than you found them.
What’s Stayed the Same: Our Values on Every Job
In an industry that’s always on the move, staying true to your values is no small thing. But for us, it’s the one thing we’ve never had to think twice about.
We still believe in straight talk and honest work. We still believe a handshake means something. And we still believe that how you treat people matters — whether you’re loading freight or leading a team.
Because no matter how much has changed around us, who we are hasn’t.
Looking Ahead: The Road Forward
As we celebrate this 40-year milestone, we’re not just looking back — we’re looking forward. The future of transport is evolving, and so are we.
We’re investing in new technology, better systems, and smarter ways to serve. But we’ll never lose sight of the human side of the business. That’s what’s kept us rolling for four decades — and it’s what will keep us going for many more.
To every client who’s trusted us with their freight, to every driver who’s gone the extra mile, and to every team member who’s worn the Varley name with pride — thank you.
This isn’t just our anniversary. It’s yours too.
Here’s to 40 years of honest work, strong relationships, and a journey still going strong.
